The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety is a partnership of safety advocates throughout the state who have come together for a common purpose: to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roadways. Missouri’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan, Show-Me Zero, outlines the state's plan for achieving success by implementing strategies most effective at mitigating the behaviors and issues most commonly associated with fatal and serious injury crashes in Missouri. Zero fatalities is our goal. Anything else is simply unacceptable.

May Spotlight: The Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC)
The Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC) was established after Governor Hearnes created the Missouri Division of Highway Safety by executive order on August 22, 1969 resulting from the Highway Safety Act of 1966. Shortly thereafter, he created the "Police Traffic Services Committee". The first meeting of this committee was held on October 12, 1971. On March 13, 1974, the committee was replaced with the "Missouri Division of Highway Safety Police Traffic Service Advisory Council". In 1990, the name was changed to "LETSAC" to better include all law enforcement and not just police.
OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of LETSAC is to provide recommendations, direction, guidance, and information/training to the law enforcement community in the State of Missouri. This may include implementation of priorities of the Highway Safety Act, as requested by the Assistant to the State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer of the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Safety, and other agencies as requested.
ACTIVITIES
Annually, LETSAC holds a conference with upwards of 300 law enforcement officers and other traffic safety professionals committed to reducing fatalities and serious injury crashes on Missouri roadways. The conferences bring nationally renowned speakers to share strategies that work to remove impaired drivers from our roadways, investigate crashes and incidents, share stories of hope from survivors of human trafficking and serious crashes, and share strategies to improve enforcement activities.
The LETSAC Conference also recognizes the Officers of the Year for local, county, and state agencies that reflect a commitment to traffic safety in the areas of traffic enforcement, criminal enforcement, and public service and education programs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) People Saving People Award for Missouri is also presented at the conference to those in public safety and/or from the general public who have innovative ideas and activities related to public awareness and involvement in safety programs, initiating ideas and campaigns that target local communities, and being a driving force in legislation. Officers who have had 100 or more DWI arrests are also recognized at the conference.
The LETSAC Conference is supported through grant funding from the MoDOT Highway Safety and Traffic Division for delegate participation, training hours, and other conference activities.
LETSAC also provides support for regional trainings, the most recent related to the Fentanyl crisis in our communities and how to respond as law enforcement traffic safety experts.
