MoDOT held the Interstate 55 Corridor Improvements Groundbreaking at the Herculaneum Fire Department on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. The ceremony was open to the public and included MoDOT and its project contractor, KCI Construction Company, Bartlett & West, and Wilson and Company. I-55 Project Director Justin Wolf hosted the ceremony and remarks were given by the following:

I-55 Corridor Improvements Groundbreaking Program

Crews have begun working on I-55 bridges over 3rd Street and Central Ave., building retaining walls for both structures and setting girders and pouring the deck over 3rd Street. Construction of the roundabouts at the I-55/ US 67 interchange is underway and storm sewer installation and grading on mainline I-55 from US 67 to 3rd Street has begun. Work zone updates will be sent out in advance of future traffic impacts and closures.

Completed earthwork and storm sewer installation in I-55 median between US 67 and north of Route A. Mainline concrete pavement pours have begun from US 67 to the 3rd Street bridge. Bridge approach slab and pavement were poured for I-55 over 3rd Street and I-55 over Central Avenue, completing phase 1 work for these bridges. MSE walls on the north and south side of I-55 over US 67 bridge have been constructed.
Noise Wall Public Meeting Held at VFW in Jefferson County
On July 30, MoDOT held a noise wall public meeting and invited the impacted first row receptors/property owners to vote on the proposed noise walls. All walls presented at the public meeting received a yes majority vote except for noise wall 17. All noise walls besides noise wall 17 are now in currently in the design phase and will be constructed in 2025 and 2026.

Earthwork in median from north of Central Ave to I-55 bridge over Herky Horine Road continues. Subgrade work and capping material has been placed in median between US 67 and Central Avenue. On the I-55 bridge over US 67, the end bents have been constructed and the drilled shafts, columns, and bent cap for the intermediate bent has been completed.
