Course Description:
Developing and Evaluating Interchange Alternatives
Interchange projects are typically costly, complex, and often are developed over lengthy time periods. This training course aims to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of how to develop and evaluate interchange design options and alternatives that will maximize key project outcomes such as cost-effectiveness, timely project delivery, and effective design solutions to challenging constraints. Upon completion of this course, participants will approach interchange improvement projects from a perspective of maximizing safety, traffic operations, and engineering performance by pursuing targeted project analysis and informed project design decision activities that result in efficient and effective interchange design solutions. This is an intermediate-level course and the target audience includes transportation professionals who develop interchange design alternatives as well as those who evaluate the safety and traffic operational performance of those alternatives. Job titles include roadway designers, project managers, safety analysis specialists, and traffic operational analysts. These jobs may be from state and local highway agencies or private sector transportation engineers consulting on freeway interchange projects. While this training is targeted towards those with mid-senior levels of experience, it may also be beneficial to entry-level transportation professionals.
