Highway Safety and Traffic Award Nominations Sought

Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety to recognize winners in Sept.

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety is accepting nominations for individuals, organizations and events to be recognized for their efforts in making Missouri’s roadways safer, moving the Show-Me State toward zero fatalities. Winners will be recognized at the 2026 Missouri Show-Me Zero Conference in Columbia on Sept. 10.

There are four statewide awards and one award for each of the seven coalition regions.

The statewide awards include:

  • The Beyond the Traffic Stop Award recognizes a law enforcement officer or enforcement-oriented group who has substantially advanced highway safety in Missouri through innovative traffic safety efforts.
  • The Lifetime Achievement in Road Safety Award is presented to an individual in recognition of their career dedicated to highway safety and traffic priorities.
  • The Road Safety Engineering Impact Award recognizes an engineer(s)/team who has incorporated a unique or proven safety feature in a highway project.
  • The Tempe Humphrey Award recognizes an individual or group who has focused efforts on our younger drivers.

The regional award recognizes an individual or group from each coalition region who has shown exemplary leadership in endeavors that significantly improve highway safety.

“Achieving a significant reduction in fatalities on Missouri’s roadways requires the support and effort of all Missourians,” said Missouri State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer Jon Nelson. “We applaud the work that’s been done by individuals and organizations to help the state experience three years in a row of fewer traffic fatalities. We look forward to recognizing those partners who have made a lasting impact, and we hope these awards will inspire others to do the same in their communities. By working together, we can keep Missouri moving in the right direction and continue saving lives on our roadways.”

Award nominations are due by July 31, 2026. Five individuals with an interest in transportation safety have been selected throughout Missouri to judge the regional and statewide awards. Nominators will be notified via email in mid‑Aug. regarding the outcome of their nomination. To submit a nomination, visit https://www.savemolives.com/mcrs/highway-safety-awards.
