Project Summary
MoDOT's Improve I-70 Program includes approximately $29 million in INFRA Grant funds to expand availability of truck parking along the I-70 corridor. During peak hours, all of I-70’s public truck parking areas are over capacity and 75% of truck stops are over capacity. Providing safe off-highway parking reduces the cost of shoulder and guardrail repairs on interstate ramps caused by trucks parking on ramp shoulders and increases safety for all travelers on the road. This project could include improvements at existing truck parking and rest areas in Odessa, Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City.
This project will soon transition into a Design-Build project and is one of several which will modernize the I-70 corridor across the state. Since its original construction more than 50 years ago, I-70 has been a vital lifeline for moving people, goods and information across Missouri and beyond.
Project Goals
- Deliver the project by December 1, 2028, within the program budget.
- Expand and modernize truck parking facilities along I-70 while improving the safety of facilities for users.
- Minimize construction impacts with a focus on work zone safety, communication, and construction staging while maintaining mobility.
- Provide expanded employment opportunities while developing and using a diverse workforce.
Project Milestones
A virtual industry meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6. A link/phone number to join this meeting will be available beginning Jan. 5.
