Project Summary
The Missouri Route 19 bridge over Spring Creek in Dent County, just south of Salem, is slated for a deck overlay in 2027. Built in 1986, the bridge’s driving surface has deteriorated and is in need of repair.
At this time, the plans call for one lane to remain open during construction, with temporary traffic signals to guide motorists through the work zone.
Project Progress
The Missouri Department of Transportation is in the process of planning rehabilitation work to extend the useful life of the Missouri Route 19 bridge over Spring Creek. This work is expected to include:

Replacing driving surface.

Replacing pavement markings.

Milling and replacing the asphalt pavement approaching each end of the bridge.
This project is not expected to require any new right-of-way acquisition.
The estimated total cost (engineering and construction) for this project is $191,000, subject to change.
During the two-week online comment period running Aug. 17 – Aug. 31, 2026, the community and interested parties will have multiple avenues to learn about, ask questions, and submit input regarding the planned work and associated traffic impacts.

The project is currently scheduled to be part of MoDOT's December 2026 letting, when contractors may submit competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission may award the contract as part of its January 2027 meeting and, if the contract is awarded, a notice to proceed date will also be given. That is the earliest date the contractor may begin work.
Construction is expected to take place in 2027.
At this time, the plans call for one lane to remain open during construction, with temporary traffic signals to guide motorists through the work zone.
Construction is expected to be complete by Dec. 1, 2027.
