U.S. ROUTE 54 PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS IN CALLAWAY COUNTY
U.S. Route 54 from the Missouri River Bridge to north of Interstate 70 in Callaway County will have a new driving surface soon. Construction crews will remove the existing surface layer and replace with new pavement. Guardrail will also be replaced and upgraded, where needed.
PROJECT PROGRESS
The Missouri Department of Transportation designed pavement and guardrail improvements on U.S. Route 54 from Missouri River Bridge to north of I-70.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $24,463,380.36 contract to Magruder Paving, LLC to complete this project and three others (U.S. Route 54 eastbound expansion, rehabilitation work on three bridges over U.S. Route 54 in Callaway County, and intersection improvements at U.S. Route 54 and Old Jefferson City Road).
Construction crews began with pavement repairs on July 22, 2024, and resurfacing U.S. Route 54 in Callaway County started Aug. 12, 2024. Work is being paused through the winter months and will resume in the spring of 2025.
This work requires temporary lane closures and possibly some temporary narrowed lanes. U.S. Route 54 will remain open throughout the duration of the project. The contractor is required to work at night on certain segments of U.S. Route 54, both for the safety of the crews and to lessen traffic impacts.
Work is expected to be completed by May 22, 2025.
