Project Summary

The Missouri Department of Transportation is conducting a conceptual study to identify potential improvements for two adjacent sections of I-70 between the Missouri River and North Hanley Road.

Segment 1: Missouri River to west of US 67 (Lindbergh Blvd.)

  • Goal of Segment 1 - Identify potential improvements to the safety and operations of the corridor that might influence the programmed 2025-2029 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The Improve I-70 STL Conceptual Study from the Missouri River to Lindbergh Blvd. reflects multiple “take care of the system” projects along the corridor.

Segment 2: West of US 67 (Lindbergh Blvd.) to North Hanley Rd.

  • Goal of Segment 2 - Identify potential improvements to the safety and operations of the corridor, identify corridor needs, and coordinate with proposed improvements by local partners.

Anticipated Outcomes

Some of the outcomes of the study will likely include:

  • The purpose and need for various improvements.
  • Goals, objectives, and evaluation measures for this corridor.
  • Alternative strategies to address identified problems.
  • An analysis of possible impacts of these alternatives in terms of environmental, transportation, and financial impacts.
  • An evaluation of how each alternative addresses the problems, goals, and objectives for the corridor.

Funding for Potential Projects

  • MoDOT has identified partial funding for the potential needs in Segment 1 (FY2029) beyond the in-kind replacement of the designated I-70 bridge locations (I-270 interchange & MO 180 [St Charles Rock Road] over I-70).
  • Segment 2 does not have a project in the current 2025-2029 STIP.
  • The remaining needs in Segment 1 and all of Segment 2 are in the annually updated High Priority Unfunded Needs (HPUN) list.
