JEFFERSON CITY - Improvements to the Interstate 70 bridges over Perche Creek, west of Columbia, will begin on Monday, August 9.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of the bridges. This includes making updates to both the substructure and the bridge deck.
Interstate 70 will remain open to traffic with single lane closures necessary for the safety of travelers and workers on the road. Barrier walls will be in place during the deck work on each bridge, reducing each bridge to one lane for a 5-day period. Work on the westbound bridge will begin first, with work on the eastbound bridge to follow.
While work is taking place on the eastbound bridge, the on-ramp from the Midway/Route UU interchange onto eastbound I-70 will be closed. Midway/Route UU traffic will be detoured to the Route O/J interchange to access eastbound I-70.
This project is scheduled to be complete by December. Message boards will be in place in advance to warn motorists of lane closures. MoDOT appreciates the patience of travelers while the work takes place.
These bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
