JEFFERSON CITY – Ongoing rehabilitation of the Perche Creek bridges along Interstate 70 in Boone County will impact westbound traffic this weekend.
Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close one westbound lane of the bridge, west of Columbia, on Friday, August 27 at 8 p.m. The lane will remain closed through Tuesday, August 31. The lane will also be limited to eleven feet with a concrete barrier in place during the closure.
The closure is necessary for the safety of travelers on the road and workers on and under the bridge.
“With the closure of the lane on the interstate, we are asking westbound motorists to be prepared for significant delays,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Kirsten Munck. “We are expecting the closure to create traffic backups of several miles over the weekend. If at all possible, we ask motorists to seek an alternate route around the area.”
Similar closures, along with ramp closures, are planned for the eastbound lanes in late September.
This work is part of an ongoing project to rehabilitate both of the bridges. This includes making updates to both the substructure and the bridge deck. The project is scheduled to be complete by December. Message boards are in place in advance to warn motorists of lane closures.
These bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
