JEFFERSON COUNTY – Due to the possibility of inclement weather conditions in Friday’s forecast, the location for the Interstate 55 Groundbreaking ceremony has been changed to the Herculaneum Fire Station. The fire station is located at 151 Riverview Plaza Dr, Herculaneum, MO 63048.
The ceremony was previously set to be held at the Herculaneum Commuter Lot in Jefferson County.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will host a groundbreaking ceremony with KCI Construction with Bartlett & West to mark the start of construction on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m.
“MoDOT is excited to partner with KCI Construction to deliver this $246 million project. Along with adding a third lane to Interstate 55 from Route Z to US 67, this project will alleviate the traffic bottlenecks in the corridor and will improve safety and reliability on both I-55 and US 67. It is an honor to be part of such a transformative project for Jefferson County,” said I-55 Project Director Justin Wolf.
The entire project length is over 12 miles, with approximately 70,000 motorists traveling this section of I-55 daily. Multiple interchanges on Interstate 55, including Route Z, McNutt Road, and the US 67 interchange will be replaced with modernized interchanges designed for future traffic volumes. The signalized intersection at US 67 and Route CC will be converted to an interchange. The project will be replacing 14 bridges and rehabilitating 12 bridges along the I-55 corridor.
“KCI Construction is honored and excited to be the builder for this I-55 improvement project. With many of our employees residing in Jefferson County, being the contractor for this project gives us a greater appreciation for the difference it will make for the region. We are proud to serve the community and to be an integral part of our hometown,” said KCI President, Tom Huster.
