April/May 2024 Update: St. Louis Safety Design-Build Project

The Safety Improvements Design-Build Project is moving along smoothly with numerous safety improvements completed already!

The team has replaced over 300 retroreflective backplates in 33 locations (two locations in St. Louis City and 31 locations across St. Louis County).  The new backplates help improve the visibility of traffic signals at intersections by providing a more visible background for the signal head.

Warning signs (chevrons) have been added to curves in over 50 locations (13 in St. Louis County and 38 in Jefferson County.

Transverse rumble strips, flashing beacon signs, new sidewalks with ADA curb ramps have also been implemented in St. Louis County and Jefferson County.

For a more detailed description of the safety improvements, view MoDOT’s Safety Improvements booklet.
