JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Adding an additional lane to eastbound U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City, north of the Missouri River, is now complete. Motorists began using the third lane this morning, Aug. 29.
The base of the third lane was constructed earlier this year in the median from the north end of the Missouri River Bridge to just past the U.S. Route 63 interchange. An asphalt overlay was placed on the new lane and the road was restriped this week.
However, the final road configuration is not complete. Construction crews will be restriping the Missouri River Bridge overnight Thursday. Once complete, the roadway from West Main Street to the U.S. Route 63 interchange will include:
- Two lanes for eastbound U.S. Route 54.
- One lane dedicated to northbound U.S. Route 63.
- The auxiliary lane to Route W (Airport Road).
There are still several construction zones on U.S. Route 54, both north and south of the Missouri River. The most up-to-date traffic restrictions and information about the work taking place along the busy U.S. Route 54 corridor in Jefferson City can be found at www.modot.org/guide-us-route-54-improvement-projects-jefferson-city.
