MoDOT Consultant Open Roads Designer Training

We would like to inform your firm about upcoming OpenRoads Designer Classes, Road 2 and Survey that MoDOT is providing to consultants. The dates and locations, along with other important information are listed below. Registration is limited to 20 attendees for each class and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

 

OpenRoads Designer Road-2

 

February 24-28, 2025 in MoDOT’s St Louis Traffic Management Center (TMC), Conference Room 209, located at 14301 South Outer 40 Road, Town and Country, MO 63017.  Please contact William.Politte@modot.mo.gov if you are interested in attending this class.

OpenRoads Designer Survey

 

January 27th-30th, 2025 in the Central Office-Design, CADD Classroom, located at 200 Harrison St, Jefferson City, MO 65101.  Please contact Melvin.Distler@modot.mo.gov if you are interested in attending this class.

 

 

 

Below is a summary for the classes:

 

Here is information for the OpenRoads Designer Road 2 classes.

 

  • Class is free for consultants that are currently on or will be assigned a MoDOT job.
  • Class will use ORD provided on a MoDOT Laptop with ProjectWise installed.  
  • The training will start Monday morning at 9:00am and will go until 3:30 pm each day. The remaining days will start at 8:00am and end on Friday – End times depends on the pace of the class. Additionally, we will allow 45 minutes to an hour for lunch each day and it will be on your own.
  • This class is not an introductory type class and attendees must have a basic knowledge of MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.   
  • The “ORD -  Road 2” training material will cover the following topics:
    • Advanced Terrain Modeling
    • Ramp Design
    • End Bent Modeling
    • Intersection Design
    • Earthwork
    • Special Ditches
    • Sight Visibility Tools
    • Display Rules
    • Guardrail Modeling
  • Participants will be using MoDOT assigned logins to access the class files and ProjectWise Environment.  MoDOT will supply the material to be used during training.
  • Some attendees will also have to double up with another attendee per computer (if two from the same Consultant are attending, we suggest those attendees double up).

 

 

Here is information for the Open Roads Designer Survey class. 

 

  • Class is free for consultants that are currently on or will be assigned a MoDOT job.
  • Class will use ORD provided on a MoDOT Laptop with ProjectWise installed.  
  • The training will start Monday morning at 9:00am and will go until 3:30 pm each day. The remaining days will start at 8:00am and end on Thursday – End times depends on the pace of the class. Additionally, we will allow 45 minutes to an hour for lunch each day and it will be on your own.
  • Attendees must have a basic knowledge of MicroStation.  
  • The “Open Roads Designer Survey” training material will cover the following topics:
    • Importing Survey Data (MoDOT “Rec” File)
    • Civil Geometry - Horizontal
    • Terrain Models – Creating and Editing
    • Exporting Graphic Features
    • MoDOT Survey Workflow
    • Point and Linear Feature Editing
    • Working with LiDAR Data
  • Participants will be using MoDOT assigned logins to access the class files and ProjectWise Environment.  MoDOT will supply the material to be used during training.
  • Some attendees will also have to double up with another attendee per computer (if two from the same Consultant are attending, we suggest those attendees double up).

 

 

All training will be taught using ProjectWise. But for those of you that don’t use ProjectWise don’t worry.  During the training we will show the steps on how to navigate, open, and close the class documents within ProjectWise.
