MoDOT switches I-55 traffic onto newly constructed median in Jefferson County starting Friday

JEFFERSON COUNTY- Drivers should be aware that beginning at 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, MoDOT will begin shifting southbound I-55 traffic in Jefferson County onto the newly constructed median pavement from north of Central Avenue to south of the I-55/US 67 interchange.

Southbound I-55 traffic will be fully switched onto the new median by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3rd. Moving traffic onto the new median pavement allows for the demolition of the existing southbound I-55 pavement and I-55 bridges over Central Ave, 3rd St, and US 67. All work is weather permitting.

In addition to the traffic shift, the southbound US 67 loop ramp to southbound I-55 will be closed for six months beginning Friday, February 28, while the southbound I-55 bridge over US 67 is demolished and replaced.

Southbound US 67 traffic will be detoured onto southbound US 61 to the I-55 interchange (Exit 170), where drivers can continue onto southbound I-55. All detours will be signed.

For additional information about current and upcoming detours and project status, please visit the I-55 Corridor Improvement project website at: February/March Closures | Missouri Department of Transportation.
