MoDOT: Forward 44: Construction of I-44 Widening Project in Springfield

To Begin The Week of March 10

Springfield – A project to widen I-44 to six lanes, three lanes in each direction, between Missouri Route 13 (Kansas Expressway) and U.S. Route 65 in Springfield is scheduled to start the week of March 10, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Crews will begin installing work zone signs and other items the week of March 3 in preparation for the widening work.

The project will widen I-44 by adding a lane in each direction in the median between Missouri Route 13 (Kansas Expressway) and U.S. Route 65, resurface I-44 between west of Missouri Route 266 (Chestnut Expressway) and U.S. Route 160 (West Bypass) and replace three bridges over I-44.

I-44 lane closures are to begin in March. Traffic impacts, such as traffic shifts, will go into effect in Spring 2025. Traffic alerts will be sent out to alert the traveling public of future traffic impacts.
