ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use northbound I-55 in the city of St. Louis should be aware of two upcoming overnight closures on the interstate over the next two weekends.
The closures will allow crews to place concrete for the driving surface of the new bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad between River Des Peres and Loughborough. All work is weather permitting.
Crews will close northbound I-55 at Carondelet/River City Boulevard (Exit 202A) Saturday, March 15, starting at 9 p.m. Traffic will turn right on River City Boulevard, follow it to Broadway and turn left on Broadway and follow it back to the interstate. Two northbound lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday, March 16.
Crews will again close northbound I-55 at Carondelet/River City Boulevard (Exit 202A) overnight on Friday, March 21, starting at 9 p.m. Traffic will use the same detour route of River City Boulevard and Broadway to return to the interstate. Two northbound lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22.
Crews have reopened all lanes of southbound I-55 south of River Des Peres and will be reopening all northbound lanes south of Bayless in the next week, weather permitting. As temperatures improve, paving on I-55 from River Des Peres to Lindbergh is expected to start soon. Paving work along the corridor will require shorter lane closures and is expected to continue into 2026.
