JEFFERSON COUNTY- Crews will close Central Avenue under I-55 from 7 p.m. Friday, March 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 31 for a bridge demolition. Traffic on southbound I-55 has been shifted onto a new bridge over Central Avenue allowing for the demolition of the old southbound structure. All lanes of I-55 will remain open.
Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use alternative routes during the weekend closure. All work is weather permitting.
The demolition of the southbound bridge over Central Avenue follows the demolition of two southbound I-55 structures (over US 67 and North 3rd Street) completed earlier this month. All three bridges will be replaced with new structures.
