The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $24,463,380.36 contract to Magruder Paving, LLC to complete this project and three others (U.S. Route 54 eastbound expansion, U.S. Route 54 pavement resurfacing in Callaway County, and intersection improvements at U.S. Route 54 and Old Jefferson City Road).
Work on the two bridges included deck repairs, concrete overlay, and application of protective coating. The guardrails on the Route 94 bridge were also be replaced.
Around-the-clock lane closures were in place for this work and included ramp restrictions.
The overpass bridge closed on April 8 to replace the expansion joints, repair the abutments, apply a protective coating, and install new guardrail. The contractor was able to repair the lower parts of the bridge while keeping it open to traffic, which significantly shortened the potential 60-day closure to just 15 days. The bridge reopened to all traffic on April 23, 2024.
All ramps were open and a signed detour directed motorists around the closure.
The Route H (Business U.S. 54) bridge, built in 1978, needs deck repairs, concrete overlay, and application of protective coating.
Rehabilitation work began April 8, 2024. The bridge is open to one lane and temporary traffic signals are in place to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays during peak traffic hours. This work is expected to continue through July 7, 2024.
All rehabilitation work on the bridges was completed in September 2024.
