Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main purpose of the project?

The main purpose of the project is to upgrade the sidewalks and ADA along the corridor, which runs from east of Lindbergh to I-170.  In addition, the signal at Page Industrial Blvd. will be completely replaced.

What is the timeline for the project?

Right of Way (ROW) has started and construction is to begin in early 2026.  Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) facility upgrades are expected to be completed by the summer of 2027, with resurfacing to follow afterwards.

What is the cost of the project?

The cost of the project is approximately $3 Million.

Are new sidewalks being installed as part of the project?

Existing sidewalks are being upgraded to current standards to meet ADA requirements.  There will be a few locations along the corridor where we will construct new sidewalk where there are none today.  However, there will still be significant gaps in sidewalk along Route D after this project.  MoDOT is looking to scope a future project that would fill in these gaps, but funding has not been aside for this future job.

Will I have access to the entrance to my house/business during construction?

For commercial or residential entrances with wide openings, the entrance will likely be constructed one-half at a time.  For narrow entrances, the entrance may need to be closed for a few days in order to reconstruct it.

Will the project impact utilities?

Major impacts to overhead utilities are not expected but there could be some relocations at signalized intersections.

Will the project create noise during construction at night?

For a majority of the project, construction on Route D will take place during the day, especially when reconstructing entrances, sidewalks and ADA facilities.  Resurfacing of Route D after completion of the ADA facilities will take place at night.

Will lighting be upgraded along the corridor?

Separate pedestrian lighting will not be installed by MoDOT on this project.  Lighting improvements will be made at the signalized intersections and to light up permanent islands along the corridor.

Why are we holding a public meeting?

MoDOT is holding a public meeting to show proposed upgrades to sidewalk and ADA facilities that must be completed by the end of summer 2027 and to discuss potential improvements along Route D that could occur on a future unfunded project.   Prior to this meeting, MoDOT did post an online survey to also gather comments concerning this corridor.

Will bus stops be upgraded on this job?

MoDOT will work with METRO to upgrade bus pads as part of the Route D project, but MoDOT will not construct new bus stop shelters.

My entrance was upgraded a few years ago – are you going to have to tear it out to do your work?

Since we are upgrading all of the existing sidewalks along the corridor to meet current ADA standards, this may require MoDOT to reconstruct your entrance to meet these guidelines.

Are you going to add median islands along the corridor?

Where it makes sense, we do plan to add median islands, however, our intention is not to block access to existing residences or commercial properties.

Are you going to add bump-out shoulder islands similar to what was installed on Clarkson Road?

We will not be installing any bump-out shoulder islands on Route D on this project.  We will look at bump-outs as a possible improvement for pedestrian safety at signalized intersections where these bump-outs allow for shorter crossings for pedestrians.

What safety improvements are you making on this project?

We are upgrading ADA facilities and upgrading signals at existing signalized intersections.

I’ve seen MoDOT and its contractor already out on Route D (Page Avenue) earlier this summer at the Ashby Rd., Woodson Rd. and Dielman Rd. intersections.  What was this work for?

MoDOT had a different Safety Design Build Project that made improvements throughout the St. Louis District including at those three intersections on Route D.  Improvements included some resurfacing, the addition of offset left turns and median islands, hardened centerline rumble strips, improved right turn lanes and striping.  All of those improvements should be completed and will be incorporated into this project.
