Innovation Description and Benefit:
Grid Tied Block mats are anchored under the pavement shoulder and into the ground to stabilize the slopes and prevent undermining of the downstream edge of the roadway pavement during flooding events. By stabilizing roadsides during a flooding event, it saves the department time, money and resources by eliminating major repairs after flooding events in these flood-prone areas. Additionally, it makes the roadway safer for travelers by preventing the undermining of the roadway during a flooding event.
