I-70 and U.S. Route 54 Plans & Displays
Collector-Distributor (CD) Roads
This project includes Collector-distributor (CD) roads. CD Roads are separated from the freeway’s main driving lanes. Their primary purpose is to allow the entry and exit movements, or weaves, to occur away from the high-speed traffic on the main driving lanes. A CD Road is similar to an exit ramp, but is typically longer, and has the advantage of allowing drivers to bypass traffic signals at intersections. The collector lanes are usually separated by a barrier wall from the main driving lanes of the highway.
I-70 & U.S. Route 54 Interchange - Roundabout in Kingdom City
The Improve I-70 Columbia to Kingdom City project features an updated interchange design at the I-70 and U.S. Route 54 interchange in Kingdom City. The new interchange features a roundabout that is the first of its kind along I-70. MoDOT and its contractor team closely studied this area using traffic modeling software. This design was selected as it will move traffic, including semis, more safely and efficiently than the previous signalized interchange.
