Exit ramp from westbound I-70 to Business Loop 70 in Columbia to close permanently

No access to westbound Exit 128 as of Nov. 12

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – In mid-November, the left exit ramp from westbound Interstate 70 to Business Loop 70 in Columbia will close permanently. In preparation for its removal, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation will restrict all access to westbound Exit 128 the night of Nov. 12.

Construction crews will use the closed ramp for excavation and to move material. No date has been set for the removal of the ramp, but it is expected to take place sometime in 2025.

Motorists will need to use Exit 127 (Missouri Route 763/Range Line Street) south to Business Loop 70.

Removing the left exit from westbound I-70 is part of the overall redesign for the I-70 and U.S. Route 63 interchange. This work is part of the first project within MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program, Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City, which will add a third lane of travel in each direction to the 20-mile stretch of I-70 between U.S. Route 63 (Columbia) and Route 54 (Kingdom City). This $405 million fixed-cost contract includes new pavement on all three lanes of I-70 and will also make interchange improvements to the I-70 interchanges at Route 63 and Route 54. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2027.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget from the General Assembly signed into law by Gov. Mike Parson provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the costs to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
