About the Daniel Boone Bridge Project
The Daniel Boone Bridge carries Interstate 64 traffic across the Missouri River between St. Louis County and St. Charles County, Missouri.
In July 2012, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission selected the Walsh-Alberici joint venture team as the design-build contractor for the new I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge. Prior to the $125 million design-build project, the westbound Daniel Boone Bridge was nearly 80 years old and carried approximately 50,000 vehicles a day. This aging structure was not originally designed for interstate level traffic and needed to be replaced. In addition to a new bridge, the project included constructing a shared use path connecting Katy Trail State Park to Monarch Levee Trail and improving the Chesterfield Airport Road interchange.
The new bridge was constructed upstream of the existing eastbound bridge. Once completed, the existing eastbound bridge became the new westbound bridge, and eastbound traffic was shifted to the new bridge. This project helped improve mobility, capacity and safety in the corridor.
