Accurate program cost estimates and award amounts help MoDOT deliver projects efficiently while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. At the end of fiscal year 2026, 20 multimodal projects were completed for a total cost of $46.9 million. This is 1.2% or $0.6 million  below the planned cost of $47.6 million. Overall, multimodal projects finished 5.0% under budget in FY 2026.

Completing projects on time reflects MoDOT’s commitment to serving customers and providing safe, reliable facilities. In FY 2026, 50% of multimodal projects were completed by their scheduled deadlines. Projects that finished early were completed an average of 48 days ahead of schedule, while projects completed after their deadlines finished an average of 86 days late.

Multimodal is working to improve results by analyzing the accuracy of schedules and cost estimates, ensuring plans reflect realistic construction conditions, and requesting adjustments when needed. In addition, MoDOT is enhancing coordination with partners and stakeholders to promote reasonable costs, on-time completion, and expanded opportunities for capable local entities to perform portions of the work.

Purpose of the Measure:

This measure compares total project costs to the programmed project budget, the difference between total construction payout and the original award amount, and the percentage of multimodal projects opened by the contract date.

Measurement and Data Collection:

Completed project costs are reported during the fiscal year in which a project is completed. Project costs typically reflect state and/or federal funds but do not include funds contributed locally for such projects. Contract completion dates and project performance are tracked by multimodal staff or consultant resources.
Targets are set by both internal policy and management directive.
