Innovation Description and Benefit:

MoDOT has constantly built, maintained, and improved roadway geometrics since 1913. One of the challenges with completing all this work is how to communicate all these changes to the roadways to the public. Since people rely on technology more than ever before for directions, the electronic maps must be as accurate as possible. The Map Update Sheet was created with accurate and simple information including:

• Link to the project website
• Location of the work zone
• Type of work
• Date when construction starts
• Duration of work
• Geographic Information System (GIS) file of the project

The above information is provided to the MoDOT TMS map group and private mapping companies every month or as often as needed to make sure they know the information in advance to help them better prepare their updates prior to construction so they can update their maps more quickly.
